The 30 Year Wait is Over!

It’s an exciting time for us here at BTS DC.

After an extensive period of planning and preparation, we are excited to announce WBTSDC’s next phase! As you may have seen on local news broadcasts over the past few weeks - seen here on ABC7 local news and here on FOX5 local news - we have forged a partnership with DCPS that will launch varsity wrestling in high schools for the first time in 30 years!. This March, eight DCPS high schools will begin their inaugural season: Anacostia, Ballou, Bell, Cardoza, Dunbar, HD Woodson, Roosevelt and Wilson.

In order to support this exciting new phase in our growth, we’ve launched our 2022 BELIEVE campaign to raise $200,000. We've already reached $130K, and are counting on you to get us across the finish line. These funds will provide each school with all necessary start-up equipment including wrestling mats, uniforms, headgear, and shoes, valued at approximately $25,000 per school.

I’m reaching out today to challenge you to set up your own personal fundraising page to help us meet our goal. I encourage you to participate in our campaign by joining us so that more young people can have their lives impacted by the sport of wrestling. By participating in this campaign, you are bringing wrestling back to the District’s most underserved communities.

In addition to supplying all equipment, we will assist in recruiting and training new coaches, staging wrestling clinics for the student athletes, and most importantly, connecting with the kids in the offseason. We will provide year-round training, academic support, mentoring and tutoring programs for these student athletes. Our long-term goal is to give our student athletes a positive high school experience, transitioning to post-graduation success.

There’s never been a more important time to help us. If you can’t create an individual or team fundraising page at this time but still want to help our campaign - click here - to make your tax-deductible gift to WBTSDC now.

  • Believe in the power of sport.

  • Believe in WBTSDC

  • Believe in DC’s youth

by helping them become leaders on and off the mat, in high school and beyond.

Thank you so much for joining us in this campaign.

Sincerely,

Geary Fitzpatrick
